Sentiv helps distributed teams modernise field communications with Hytera Push-to-Talk over Cellular
Many organisations still rely on ordinary mobile calls, informal messaging groups, and fragmented channels to coordinate teams across sites, vehicles, branches, facilities, and field operations. These tools may be convenient, but they were not designed for fast group communication, dispatcher oversight, location visibility, emergency escalation, or controlled operational coordination.
Sentiv is bringing Hytera’s Push-to-Talk over Cellular (PTToC) portfolio to organisations that need a more structured and controlled way to coordinate field teams, without extending a full private radio model to every team, site, or function.
Security companies, logistics operators, retailers, utilities, municipalities, construction teams, hospitality groups, manufacturers, facilities managers, and field-service organisations all face a similar challenge. Their teams need to reach the right groups quickly, share information clearly, and respond to incidents without wasting time on individual calls or unstructured message threads.
PTToC addresses this by giving teams instant one-to-one and one-to-many communication over mobile broadband networks. Users can speak to individuals or groups using a dedicated push-to-talk button or touchscreen control, without having to dial phone numbers or manage operational updates through informal chat groups.
“Most teams already have ways to contact each other. The gap appears when they need to coordinate quickly across sites, vehicles, shifts, and incidents,” says Darryn Murugan, Lead: Platform Solutions at Sentiv. “PTToC gives distributed teams a practical way to stay connected across locations, while bringing dispatch, location awareness, alerts, and field activity into a more controlled environment.”
PTToC is particularly relevant where teams operate over wide areas and mobile network coverage is available. It can provide a practical layer for everyday operations, especially in environments where a full private radio network may not be necessary for every user, site, or use case.
PTToC should not be seen as a universal replacement for dedicated mission-critical radio infrastructure. In high-availability, emergency-grade, regulated, or safety-critical environments, technologies such as DMR and TETRA still play an essential role. The value of PoC is that it gives organisations another option in the communications mix, especially for teams that need fast, flexible, wide-area coordination without unnecessary infrastructure complexity.
Modern PTToC platforms can also support more than voice. Depending on the device, platform, and deployment model, organisations can use group calling, dynamic groups, dispatcher control, GPS tracking, geofencing, emergency alerts, lone-worker monitoring, man-down alerts, video calling, and user management tools.
Hytera’s PTToC range includes professional handheld and mobile devices supported by platforms that enable group communication, dispatch, location services, emergency alerts, and remote workforce coordination.
This gives managers and control rooms a clearer view of what is happening in the field. A security control room can monitor patrol teams across multiple sites. A logistics operator can coordinate drivers and dispatchers more effectively. A facilities team can respond faster across a large property portfolio. A municipality or utility can connect field teams without over-engineering every department’s communication model.
For Sentiv, which specialises in mission-critical communications and operational intelligence, PTToC forms part of a wider conversation about how organisations keep teams connected, informed, and visible during daily operations and incidents.
“Hytera’s PTToC portfolio gives customers another practical option for field operations. The right architecture depends on coverage, risk, user needs, and the work being done. Some environments still need private radio, while others can benefit from the flexibility and reach of PTToC,” says Murugan.
Sentiv helps organisations assess where PTToC fits within their operating environment, where traditional radio remains essential, and how different communication layers can support a single operational view across teams, sites, and incidents.
