Sales up owing to municipal inefficiencies

CUTE AND QUIET The JoJo Smart Pump range is not only aesthetically pleasing but also runs quietly with noise levels of about 55 dB
The structural and operational challenges in South Africa’s municipal water systems have contributed to the double-digit increase in pump and water-tank sales across the tank supply industry over the past two years, says water storage solutions provider JoJo Tanks sales and marketing executive Julien Smith.
He says the sector has noted a clear shift towards fully installed, end-to-end water retention solutions, adding that “rather than ‘tank-only’ purchases, many clients are opting for complete ‘tank-to-tap’ systems that include pumps, filtration units and all the required components.”
Growing urban demand is another contributor to the marked uptick in pump and tank installations, with the subsequent densification also placing strain on bulk supply systems, and private installations superseding infrastructure development and upgrades in many instances.
Smith notes that households, estates and commercial properties are investing in integrated on-site water storage systems to improve supply continuity and stability, with the emphasis not only on access to water but also on safe, reliable supply with low levels of disruption.
“Most clients choose water tanks and pumps based on the space they have available,” he says, adding that strong growth for the JoJo 750 ℓ and the JoJo Slimline 1000 ℓ tanks, along with the 1 500 ℓ and 2 500 ℓ MultiSlim range, has been recorded in urban areas, owing to their “modern aesthetics and space-saving design”.
When paired with the JoJo Smart Pump range of variable-speed drive magnetic motor pumps, these tanks create a complete solution that meets both water-supply requirements and visual preferences.
Smith adds that the range is considered one of the best for quiet operation, with noise levels of about 55 dB.
“Since its launch in October last year, the JoJo Smart Pump range has delivered strong results, outperforming comparable products in its category,” he avers.
Where space is less of a constraint, clients typically opt for higher-capacity options, such as the 2 400 ℓ and 5 250 ℓ tanks, providing longer-lasting water storage to help them “ride out extended outages”.
Smith says the challenges encountered when installing a pump and tank solution depend on the scale of the system, the intended application and the water source.
Basic domestic backup or rainwater harvesting solutions can be relatively straightforward and ‘do-it-yourself-friendly’, particularly as JoJo offers an extensive range of compatible tanks, pumps and accessories designed for seamless integration.
However, when a system is integrated into the municipal mains supply, particularly where automatic switching, pressure control and compliance with plumbing regulations are required, Smith recommends using a qualified plumber or professional installer.
Commercial and industrial clients typically opt for larger-capacity backup configurations and fully installed, integrated systems.
