Centerra COO Hendriks to depart as Sylvestre steps in on interim basis
Precious metals miner Centerra Gold on Monday announced the departure of executive VP and COO David Hendriks, as the company initiates a search for a permanent replacement.
Hendriks will remain available in a consulting capacity to support the transition, while experienced mining executive Mike Sylvestre has been appointed interim COO with immediate effect.
President and CEO Paul Tomory said Sylvestre’s appointment would ensure continuity across the company’s operations.
“As we begin the search for a permanent replacement, we are pleased to welcome Mike Sylvestre as our interim chief operating officer. Mike brings decades of operational leadership and deep technical expertise, and we are confident his experience and results-driven approach will support our sites as we remain focused on execution across our operating assets,” Tomory said.
Sylvestre has more than 45 years of international mining experience and most recently served as senior VP for the Americas at Kinross Gold, retiring in 2022. His career spans leadership roles across major, midtier and junior mining companies, with a focus on operational performance, safety and project development.
He currently serves on the boards of Hochschild Mining and Vista Gold.
Centerra operates the Mount Milligan mine in Canada and the Öksüt mine, alongside a pipeline of development projects in North America, including the Kemess and Goldfield projects.
