Chicago Mercantile Exchange

The Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) is a major global derivatives marketplace based in Chicago, United States, where futures and options contracts are traded on a wide range of asset classes including metals, energy, agricultural commodities, currencies, and financial instruments. Founded in 1898 as a marketplace for agricultural futures, the CME has evolved into one of the world's largest and most liquid financial exchanges. The exchange operates multiple trading platforms including CME Globex, an electronic trading system that enables 24-hour trading across global markets. CME Group, the parent company formed through mergers with the Chicago Board of Trade and New York Mercantile Exchange, operates several exchanges and clearing houses. Metals trading on the CME includes futures contracts for copper, gold, silver, and other commodities, providing price discovery and risk management tools for producers, consumers, and financial traders. The exchange plays a central role in global commodity price formation and is subject to regulation by the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission.
