Woodside appoints former Anglo American CEO Cutifani to board
Australian energy major Woodside Energy has appointed veteran mining executive Mark Cutifani as an independent nonexecutive director, effective March 19.
Cutifani’s appointment is aimed at strengthening the board’s governance and oversight capabilities, particularly in managing large-scale, capital-intensive global operations.
Woodside chair Richard Goyder said the former Anglo American CEO would bring extensive leadership experience and a strong track record in operational performance and capital discipline.
“Mark brings extensive global leadership experience, deep operational expertise and a strong record of portfolio optimisation and capital discipline. His experience leading large and complex resource companies through periods of transformation and performance improvements will further strengthen the Board’s oversight of strategy, risk and long-term value creation,” Goyder said.
Cutifani led Anglo American for more than nine years, overseeing a significant restructuring of the diversified miner. Prior to that, he served as CEO of AngloGold Ashanti, where he executed a turnaround strategy.
His career spans more than four decades across global mining and resources, including senior roles in Australia and the US. He has also recently completed a nine-year tenure as a nonexecutive director of TotalEnergies.
Cutifani will serve on Woodside’s audit and risk, sustainability, and nominations and governance committees, and will stand for election at the company’s AGM on April 23.
Earlier this week, Woodside appointed interim chief Liz Westcott as CEO and MD, succeeding Meg O'Neill who departed in December to take the helm at rival BP.
