Anglo American CEO Duncan Wanblad said on Thursday the company was "not exclusive with any consortium" on the sale of its diamond unit De Beers.

This follows recent media reports that the diversified mining group was favouring a consortium led by former De Beers CEO Gareth Penny to acquire the diamond unit.

Meanwhile, newswire Bloomberg on Wednesday also reported that Anglo was reportedly planning to sell the struggling diamond business for as little as $1-billion.

De Beers, which has been faced with lower demand and prices for a number of years, earlier this month announced that it would halt production at its Venetia mine, in South Africa, for two years, as part of efforts to streamline the business.
