State-owned freight operator Transnet has invited requests for proposals (RFPs) for 15 noncore properties, including the Carlton Centre, in Johannesburg; the Bloemfontein Golf Course, in the Free State; the Avion Park Golf Course, in Ekurhuleni, Gauteng; and the Umlazi Mall Megacity, in KwaZulu-Natal, among others.

National departments, provincial departments, municipalities, State-owned companies and other public entities are afforded the first right of refusal to express an interest in acquiring, using, leasing, or otherwise taking transfer of the properties for public sector purposes.

Interested public entities must indicate the intended public use or purpose of the properties and confirmation of budgetary provision and/or funding availability.

Should no formal interest be received from any government department, State-owned company or qualifying public entity within the 30-day period, Transnet will issue a public RFP to the open market for interested private sector parties, Transnet said in the August 24 Government Gazette.

Meanwhile, in addition to the properties mentioned above, Transnet has also placed four properties in Cape Town up for sale.

These are the 9 721 m2 Cape Town Site 9 (Motor Dealership Land) at 14 Hertzog boulevard, Woodstock; the 212 599 m2 Kenridge (Willow Bridge) at 39 Carl Cronje drive, in Tyger Valley; the 53 204 m2 Bellville Marshalling Yard at 9 A J W street in Bellville; and the 26 900 m2 Roggebaai Locality Plan, in the Foreshore Precinct, at 1 Anchor way.

Further, in the Eastern Cape, it put up for sale the 55 938 m2 Humewood Erf 1205 & 1206, at 1 Pommern street, in Humewood, Gqeberha; the 203 835 m2 Humewood Land at La Roche drive, in South End, Humewood, Nelson Mandela Bay; the 11 948 m2 Mount Frere Shopping Centre at 350 Main road, in KwaBhaca (previously Mount Frere); the 117 063 m2 Arcadia Park at 32 Commercial road, in Buffalo City, KuGompo City (previously East London); and the 405 033 m2 Oribi Plaza at 24 Aiken street, in Port Shepstone.

In Durban, it placed the 47 192 m2 Durban Station Precinct No 1 Greyville at 65 Masabalala Yengwa up for sale and, in Musina, Limpopo, the 9 890 m2 Messina Superspar in Limpopo avenue.
