Oil, gas and energy company TotalEnergies and oil and natural gas company Galp have completed a transaction, first announced in December 2025, through which TotalEnergies has acquired a 40% operated interest in the PEL83 licence, holding the Mopane discovery, in Namibia.

Galp, meanwhile, has acquired from TotalEnergies a 10% participating interest in the PEL56 licence, holding the Venus discovery and a 9.39% participating interest in the PEL91 licence.

Galp retains a 40% interest in the PEL83 licence, while Namcor holds a 10% interest and Custos a 10% interest.

TotalEnergies also holds a 35.25% operated interest in the PEL56 licence, alongside QatarEnergy with 35.25%, Galp with 10%, Namcor with 10% and Impact with 9.5%, as well as a 33.09% operated interest in PEL91 alongside QatarEnergy with 33.03%, Namcor with 15%, Impact with 9.5% and Galp with 9.39%.

“We would like to thank the Namibian authorities for their swift approval of this strategic transaction with Galp, our new partner in Namibia. TotalEnergies’ entry as operator of the giant Mopane discovery marks a key milestone in our journey to establish a major production hub in Namibia.

“This transaction positions TotalEnergies as the operator of Namibia’s two largest oil discoveries and strengthens its position in the Orange basin, supporting the long-term value creation from prolific licences.

“Exploration opportunities are already lining up beyond the Mopane development, which we will start appraising as early as the second half of 2026, aimed at taking the final investment decision on the project in 2028, after a three-appraisal-well campaign,” says TotalEnergies chairperson and CEO Patrick Pouyanné.
