The more platinum exchanges there are, the better for South Africa’s platinum mining

Hopes are high that next month’s Shanghai Platinum Week will be the starting point of new platinum exchanges that will result in greater price recovery potential for platinum and palladium. South Africa is by far the world’s biggest primary supplier of platinum group metals and China is by far the biggest consumer of these metals. With on-surface stocks poised to have less price influence going forward, the more exchanges there are, the better for South Africa’s platinum mining sector. Also, it would be very advantageous if whatever takes place on these new exchanges is visible in some way or another in Johannesburg, the time difference notwithstanding.
