For engineering businesses, machining a component is often only part of the job. Removing burrs, smoothing surfaces and achieving a consistent finish can take valuable workshop time, particularly when parts are finished individually by hand.

Cape Tools supplies OTEC surface-finishing equipment, helping manufacturers explore more repeatable approaches to these production challenges.

Batch finishing for everyday production

OTEC’s CF centrifugal disc-finishing range processes components together with selected grinding or polishing media. The movement between the parts and media provides the finishing action, supporting applications such as deburring, edge rounding, smoothing and polishing.

For workshops producing repeat batches, this offers an opportunity to reduce repetitive manual finishing and improve consistency between components. The appropriate machine and process depend on the material, part geometry, batch size and required result.

Precision finishing for demanding components

OTEC’s wider range includes drag and stream-finishing technologies for applications requiring controlled treatment of individual workpieces. Stream finishing supports tasks including deburring, smoothing, polishing and cutting-tool edge preparation, with applications across toolmaking, automotive and aerospace manufacturing.

Selecting the right technology starts with understanding what the component needs to achieve: a smoother working surface, a controlled edge, a more uniform appearance or preparation for a subsequent production stage.

Start with your parts and finishing requirements

A successful finishing process requires more than choosing a machine. Media selection, processing time, the starting surface and acceptable material removal all influence the outcome.

For components with tight tolerances or critical edges, representative sample trials help establish whether the proposed process can deliver the required finish while respecting dimensional requirements. A reference component or clearly defined finish specification provides a useful benchmark.

Cape Tools can discuss your current finishing method and coordinate application assessment with OTEC. Useful starting information includes the component material, dimensions, production volumes, photographs and the time currently spent finishing each part.

If manual deburring or polishing is slowing your production, contact Cape Tools to explore an OTEC process suited to your application.
