The latest range of GEDA hoists – introduced to the Southern African market by equipment solutions provider SkyJacks this year – are capable of lifting materials and workers to heights exceeding 100 m.

The mast-guided hoists use rack and pinion systems and come in material-only units as well as combined units.

The material-only units can carry weights between 200 kg and 500 kg, whereas the combined units can carry loads up to 2 000 kg, or seven people, says SkyJacks MD Darryn Jacobs. He adds that as many as 22 people have been carried using higher-range GEDA hoist models.

Jacobs cites another GEDA offering: the GEDA boiler hoist 300 Z for lifting heavy boiler components at industrial plants, power stations and refineries, in a safe and efficient manner.

The GEDA 300 Z can lift materials weighing up to 300 kg to heights of 100 m, at a speed of 30 m/min. This hoist is powered by a 2.5 kW, 400 V, 50 Hz or 16 A motor, depending on the client’s application specifications.

Additionally, the company can also offer the GEDA 500Z/ZP to clients that require “robust hoists”. The GEDA 500Z/ZP can carry materials of up to 1 000 kg or up to five people, and can reach heights exceeding 100 m. This hoist is powered by various motors, including 3 kW, 6.1 kW, 400 V, 50Hz and 16 A, and can lift at speeds of 12 m/min or 24 m/min.

Further, Jacobs explains that all GEDA hoists are equipped with a Core Inspection system – a software solution that monitors high-value equipment and machinery for service and maintenance purposes.

The Core Inspection system helps operators ensure structural and mechanical integrity, extend equipment longevity, improve lifting safety, optimise construction productivity and prevent costly breakdowns, according to Jacobs.

“Heavy lifting is not just about strength; it’s about control and safety. GEDA hoists are engineered to meet strict construction safety standards, reducing risk during high-load operations,” he adds.

Safety, Environmental Responsibility

SkyJacks offers equipment, training and aftermarket solutions that improve clients’ safety and environmental, social and governance performance.

The company’s accredited operator training programmes, digital compliance and inspection systems, comprehensive maintenance and after-sales support, and support for “clean, efficient” equipment and machinery, aid operator compliance.

“GEDA’s proven rack-and-pinion technology, advanced safety systems and compact modular design delivers stable, precise lifting even in confined spaces. The result: faster maintenance, reduced downtime and improved worker safety,” concludes Jacobs.
