Gold producer McEwen has reported a maiden mineral resource estimate (MRE) for its Tartan mine project, in Manitoba, outlining a combined 611 600 oz of gold and highlighting potential for further growth through drilling.

The estimate comprises 308 900 oz of indicated resources and 302 700 oz of inferred resources, based on a gold price of $3 000/oz. The company said the resource remains open along strike and at depth, with recent drilling pointing to opportunities to expand mineralisation.

McEwen noted that exploration upside exists immediately around the current resource, including along the western and eastern flanks of the Main zone, vertically at both the Main and South zones, and on the adjacent Tartan West property.

The company has allocated $6-million to exploration in 2026, targeting resource expansion and testing near-mine and regional drill targets.

Initial production from Tartan is expected to average about 30 000 oz/y, with the potential to increase throughput. McEwen said that doubling mill capacity from 500 t/d to 1 000 t/d could lift production to between 45 000 oz/y and 55 000 oz/y.

McEwen ultimately aims to double group production to between 250 000 oz/y and 300 000 oz/y by 2030.

The Tartan mine, located about 12 km north-east of Flin Flon, previously produced about 47 000 oz of gold before closing in 1989.
