July Ndlovu, Lucky Kgatle to join Implats board
Platinum group metals company Impala Platinum (Implats) has appointed July Ndlovu and Lucky Kgatle as independent nonexecutive directors, effective May 1.
The board confirms that the two appointments are integral for strengthening the company’s governance, oversight and strategic capability.
Ndlovu is a mining executive with a career spanning business leadership in the mining sector, having previously served as coal miner Thungela Resources CEO and currently serving as International Energy Agency Coal Industry Advisory Board chairperson.
Ndlovu is also an independent nonexecutive director of explosives and chemcials group AECI and gold mining company Caledonia Mining. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Metallurgical Engineering from the University of Zimbabwe, a Senior Executive Programme certificate from Columbia Business School and a Business Leadership Programme certificate from Duke University in the US, and a Master of Business Leadership (MBL) from the University of South Africa.
Kgatle is a mining executive with over 20 years’ experience across operational, strategic and leadership roles in the mining industry, having previously served as Sasol Mining senior VP, where he oversaw large-scale operations producing about 40-million tonnes of thermal coal each year and a workforce of more than 13 000 employees.
He is the founder and CEO of Tlou Holdings and Tlou Commodities, investment platforms focused on sectors critical to African development, including mining, energy, infrastructure and agriculture.
Kgatle holds a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering from the University of the Witwatersrand and a Master of Business Administration from the Gordon Institute of Business Science.
The Implats board also confirms that fit and proper assessments were conducted and that Ndlovu and Kgatle met the requisite standard of competence, experience and integrity required to serve as directors of the company.
