Huawei supports growth through automation, AI

AUTOMATED OPERATIONS Huawei's range of AI and automated product and service offerings include automated guided forklifts for warehouse operations
In progressing its automation and AI solutions globally, information and communications technology (ICT) company Huawei launched the ACT Pathway in Barcelona, Spain, last month.
The framework was developed to systematically embed industrial intelligence within organisations.
The ACT Pathway framework comprises three steps: assessing “high-value” scenarios, which includes identifying over 1 000 core production or operational scenarios where AI can be implemented; calibrating AI models with “high-quality” vertical data to ensure safety and trustworthiness throughout the AI life cycle, underpinned by a six-layer AI security framework; and transforming business operations through AI talent, with Huawei ensuring ongoing AI learning through hands-on practice programmes, ICT academies and open source communities.
Huawei also recently launched an AI education centre, in China’s Zhejiang province. The centre will provide basic education on a general AI platform equipped with computing power, open-source large models, over 50 experimental tools and applications, as well as 100 AI practical projects. The company also unveiled a first-of-a-kind AI-Native framework for intelligent operations.
“The AI-Native framework is the progenitor to three new-generation solutions, including the Agentic BSS innovation for intent-driven design and empathetic marketing; AUTINOps, which is a T-1 + T0 ‘dual protection’ operation for predictive and preventive maintenance; and SmartCare Intelligence for ‘just-in-time’ optimisation using intelligent network systems,” says Huawei.
It has also improved it SHAPE 2.0 partner framework, with AI now its core engine.
The framework’s five updates include AI-powered product upgrades; enhanced joint innovation mechanisms using AgentArts on Huawei Cloud; AI capability development with more than 20 new AI certification courses; AI tools for efficient cooperation; and more than 3 000 scenario-specific AI experts deployed across 38 industries to create growth opportunities.
An AI Future
The launch of ACT Pathway and the other solutions follows the establishment of Huawei’s AI-driven 14 000 m2 smart warehouse – incorporating automated guided vehicles and forklifts, AI-powered security solutions, intelligent warehouse management systems and green energy systems – in Johannesburg last year.
These innovations offer numerous benefits for the economy, including enhanced productivity and reduced operational costs, thereby improving global competitiveness.
AI and automation can also improve safety and quality of life while potentially reducing carbon footprints and supporting green development goals.
“Once AI and automated solutions are fully implemented in South Africa’s economic sectors, the economy will experience supply chain efficiency, job creation and skills development, as well as security and user protection.”
