Project Description
El Abra is an openpit copper mining complex.
The operation comprises a solution extraction/electrowinning facility with a capacity of 500-million pounds of copper cathode a year from a 115 000-metric-ton-a-day crushed leach circuit and a run-of-mine leaching operation.
The expansion calls for a new concentrator plant, pipelines for water requirements and investments in desalinisation.
The project will yield 750-million pounds of copper and nine-million pounds of molybdenum a year.

The project could generate more than 20 000 jobs.
