Eastplats targeting further growth in production tonnages
Platinum group metals and chrome miner Eastern Platinum (Easplats) is targeting a consistent increase in run-of-mine production tonnages at its South African mining operations above 40 000 t a month in the first half of this year, CEO Wanjin Yang says.
"This will help us achieve break-even net income again,” he comments in a statement to shareholders.
Reporting on the company's results for the quarter and financial year ended December 31, 2025, Eastplats says it produced 24 365 oz of platinum, palladium, rhodium, ruthenium, iridium and osmium (6E) PGMs for the full year, compared with the 8 113 oz of 6E PGMs produced in 2024.
Mine operating income increased by 112.5% year-on-year to $1.7-million for the full year, with the gross margin having improved to 2.8%, from 1.3% in 2024.
Eastplats recorded an operating loss of $21.6-million for the 2025 financial year, compared with an operating loss of $12.7-million recorded in 2024 and a net loss of $18.4-million, compared with a net loss of $12.8-million in 2024, mainly as a result of an impairment expense related to the company's Mareesburg project.
For this year, the company is focusing on ramping up operations at the Zandfontein underground operation, subject to capital availability and the profitability of its operations.
