Name of the Mine
Buriticá mine.
Location
Buriticá municipality, Antioquia department, Colombia.
Mine Owner/s
Continental Gold Limited Sucursal Colombia owns and operates the mine. Zijin Mining acquired a 69.28% interest in Continental Gold in 2020. Following the 2025 restructuring and listing of Zijin Gold International, Zijin Mining's effective interest in Buriticá is 58.96%.
Brief Description
Buriticá is a producing, high-grade epithermal gold operation and Colombia's first modern underground mine. The Colombian government has recognised it as a project of national strategic interest.
Brief History
Zijin Mining announced its acquisition of a 69.28% interest in Continental Gold, the company holding 100% of Buriticá, in 2020. Construction was completed and the mine was put into production on October 23, 2020, following a reported total construction investment of $610-million. Buriticá subsequently became a major gold operation within Zijin's overseas portfolio. From 2025, the asset was held through Zijin Gold International, reducing Zijin Mining's effective interest to 58.96% after the latter's listing.
Primary Metals/Minerals
Gold.
Secondary Metals/Minerals
Silver and copper.
Geology/Mineralisation
Zijin classifies Buriticá as an epithermal deposit. The ore occurs in narrow, high-grade veins, a geometry that requires close control of ore loss and dilution.
Reserves
As at December 31, 2025, Buriticá had proven reserves estimated at 53 500 t and probable reserves of 89 950 t, for total contained gold reserves of 143 450 t at an average grade of 6.57 g/t.
Resources
As at December 31, 2025, Buritica has measured and indicated resources of 220 080 t and inferred resources of 165 270 t, for total resources of 385 350 t at an average grade of 6.95 g/t. Resources include reserves. The resource inventory also includes 1 330 t of associated silver.
Type of Mine
Operating underground mine.
Mining Method
Underground narrow-vein mining. Zijin reports using smaller mining equipment and underground waste-rock sorting to reduce dilution and ore loss. Ore processing combines gravity separation, flotation and cyanide leaching.
Major Infrastructure/Equipment
The operation includes underground mine workings and development, a processing plant, gravity-separation and flotation circuits, cyanide-leaching facilities, underground waste-rock sorting, water-management systems and tailings infrastructure. In 2025, the mine completed an underground high- and low-chloride water separation system and advanced tailings backfilling and storage-facility construction.
Prospects
Buriticá is being debottlenecked and expanded. Zijin expects daily mining and processing capacity to increase from 4 000 t to at least 5 000 t, lifting yearly capacity by at least 330 000 t to no less than 1.65-million tonnes. Work includes technical upgrades, grade and dilution control, cyanide-consumption optimisation and full-sulphur flotation to improve gold, silver and copper recoveries.
