Angolan oil platform delivers first oil

OFFSHORE ENDEAVOUR Located in Block 0 off Angola’s coast, Chevron’s South N’dola platform is expected to deliver oil and gas to local Angolan plants

After over two years of construction on its oil platform situated in Angola’s Block 0 – an abundant offshore reservoir in Angola responsible for 12% of the country’s daily energy output – oil company Chevron’s South N’dola platform delivered its first oil in December 2025.

“Underpinned by the prolific Block 0, safely achieving first oil at South N’dola is the latest example of Chevron’s efforts to maximise production from our existing offshore assets in Angola,” says Chevron offshore business president Brent Gros.

Taking advantage of spare capacity in existing infrastructure enabled efficient and cost-effective development of the South N’dola field, Chevron says in a statement.

The new platform makes use of a field-to-production facility tieback that connects to the nearby Mafumeira facility – located 24 km offshore of the Cabinda province in 60 m of water – where the oil and gas platform’s products are processed and then pumped to a terminal for export.

This approach helps to eliminate the need for separate oil and gas processing equipment at South N’dola.

Having operated in Angola for over 70 years, Chevron currently operates two offshore tracts in Angola, including one in Block 0 and one in deepwater Block 14, through a wholly-owned subsidiary – Cabinda Gulf Oil Company.

Throughout its construction phase, South N’dola was expected to create more that 800 local jobs.

With its current production phase being underway, it will deliver both oil and gas to the local Angolan plants.

“Chevron and the Angolan government have worked together for more than 70 years to develop the nation’s thriving energy industry – a fantastic example of how people and partnerships power progress,” concludes Gros.
