American Rare Earths assigns district-wide assessment study for Wyoming prospects
Australia-headquartered American Rare Earths has awarded a “whole-of-property assessment” contract for its flagship Halleck Creek rare earths project, in Wyoming, to a major engineering firm.
The firm is expected to start the assessment in the second quarter and conclude by the end of the year.
The whole-of-property assessment marks a planning-level desktop study to integrate all existing geological, metallurgical, mining and permitting data across American Rare Earths’ entire 8 108 acre Halleck Creek land package in the counties of Albany and Platte.
The assessment will build on the Phase 1 Cowboy State Mine plan and establish a strategic roadmap for subsequent expansion phases at the Red Mountain, Overton Mountain and Bluegrass prospects. The assessment is aimed at optimising the broader Halleck Creek district’s development over time.
“The assessment will give us a clearer view of how to sequence development of the largest known deposit of total contained rare earth oxides in North America, and how to scale production from a State-permitted Wyoming base toward multi-phase district development in response to US demand and policy support,” says American Rare Earths CEO Mark Wall.
Halleck Creek has a total mineral resource of 2.63-billion tonnes which can sustain the Cowboy State Mine deposit alone for at least 20 years at a low strip ratio.
Cowboy State Mine has the potential to be extended into a much larger multi-phase operation across state and federal lands.
Wall deems the whole-of-property assessment key to unlocking the full potential of the company’s 8.64-million tonnes of contained total rare earth oxides and becoming a cornerstone of the US’s rare earths supply chain.
