Alara lifts Oman copper output above nameplate after ramp-up hurdles
ASX-listed Alara Resources has pushed production above nameplate at its Al Wash-hi Majaza copper operation in Oman, with output running more than 6% ahead of design capacity following months of commissioning challenges.
The milestone marks a turning point for the project, which previously faced tailings filtration issues during ramp-up but has now delivered consistent performance over a rolling six-month period.
On a year-to-date basis, mine production is 6.4% above nameplate, while concentrator output is 6.1% higher, with the operation expected to exceed 40 000 t of copper concentrate for the 2026 financial year.
MD Atmavireshwar Sthapak said reaching and surpassing nameplate capacity was a testament to the dedication, expertise, and collaboration of the entire team.
"This milestone not only demonstrates the strength of our operations, but also reinforces our confidence in the long-term potential of our flagship Al Wash-hi Majaza copper project.”
The company expects to produce more than 40 000 t of copper concentrate in the 2026 financial year.
Meanwhile, Alara confirmed that its thirty-eighth shipment of copper/gold concentrate, comprising about 1 389 t of product, has been delivered to Sohar port, but dispatch has been delayed owing to regional uncertainties.
The company is working with port authorities and shipping partners to confirm a revised departure date.
