Gold producer Akobo Minerals will temporarily scale back operations at its Segele mine, in Ethiopia, owing to a constrained diesel supply linked to disruptions in global fuel logistics.

The company does, however, expect diesel deliveries to resume by early next month, positioning the company for a swift restart once supply stabilises.

Disruptions in global fuel supply, including reduced tanker traffic through the Strait of Hormuz in the Middle East, have constrained fuel availability in Ethiopia, which relies on imported diesel.

The company highlights that it has sufficient liquidity to manage the temporary disruption in the short term and continues to maintain a constructive dialogue with key stakeholders.

This fuel supply challenge does not affect the company’s mineral resources, underground infrastructure or long-term development plans for the Segele mine.

The situation is being monitored continuously and Akobo Minerals is prepared to rapidly remobilise operations once reliable diesel deliveries are confirmed.
