Specialised mining equipment manufacturer Atlantis Group of Companies (AGC) has shipped its latest raise bore machine to industrial and mining services company Laxyo, in India. This marks the manufacturer's second international order.

The RM12 raise bore machine can drill holes up to 6 m in diameter, has 500 kNm of torque, 5 800 kN of thrust and a 380 kW direct current drive.

AGC is marketing the high-capacity, locally designed and manufactured machine to mines to enable them to immediately undertake drilling for ventilation shafts, escape raises, ore passes, slot raises and other vertical or subvertical openings, the company says.

This provides the mines with greater control over their schedules, reduces delays and removes their need to rely on contractors to do these projects.

The benefits of ownership are reinforced by the focus on ease of use of the machines, with touch screen controls, automated drilling and automated diagnostics, clear routines and fault assistance, AGC says.

Additionally, the machine can optionally be built with self-drilling, remote control and remote monitoring, if mines require these features.

The ability to control the machines remotely also reduces the demand placed on the specialists who operate the machines, and the machines can be set up and operated without requiring that the specialists be present underground.

Meanwhile, one of AGC's other raise boring machines, which was also built for Laxyo for use in Zambia.

AGC Retail Technologies CEO Sarel Smit and electrical engineering and electronics company ANCO Technologies director Anthony Mansour designed the RM12 machine for productivity, ease of use, maintenance responsiveness and reduced dependence on specialist skills.
