Victory Metals inaugurates rare earths pilot plant in Perth
Australia's federal Resources Minister Madeleine King has officiated the launch of ASX-listed rare earths developer Victory Metals' pilot plant, in Perth.
The pilot plant paves the way for the company to showcase its mixed rare earth product to offtake partners globally.
The Perth facility has been designed to demonstrate and optimise Victory's extraction process, confirming the simplicity and effectiveness of separating valuable rare earth elements from the North Stanmore clay-hosted mineralisation.
Victory's process does not depend on high temperature cracking or complex metallurgical treatment, which provides a lower-cost and more scalable pathway to production - while serving as a competitive advantage for the company.
The pilot plant equipment is the result of more than three years of research and development, drawing on the expertise of Victory’s team of internationally-recognised technical leaders alongside industry and research partners, says Victory CEO Brendan Clark.
Importantly, commissioning of the pilot plant enables the production of product samples of sufficient size for evaluation by potential customers and offtake partners in key international markets, supporting commercial discussions and advancing the company's development strategy.
King comments the opening of the pilot facility is a major achievement for Victory and a significant step forward for Australia’s rare earths sector. "Australia has a responsibility to lead on critical minerals and rare earths globally, and milestones like this show how Australia is delivering real results.”
For Clark, the commissioning of the pilot plant represents a significant step towards commercialisation of North Stanmore.
"The ability to efficiently separate rare earths from our clay-hosted deposit further validates the quality of the project and provides the foundation for generating representative product samples for potential customers."
