Remote maintenance simplified with wireless technology
Wireless systems from ifm are designed to enable convenient remote maintenance for industry, enabling practical, easy-to-use scheduled maintenance.
The company’s diagnostic and service units include the company’s radio modem controller area network (CAN) CANremote with integrated gateway and CANwireless that offers comparable functionality with the use of a wireless local area network, or WLAN. The data from the control system is either transferred to the programming or diagnostic system in real time, or it is buffered on a server for later access by means of an Internet portal.
Maintenance windows can be scheduled as required and the system also sends automatic notifications of any potential risk of machine failure. This allows service teams to be despatched immediately, supported by the most suitable equipment according to the data transmitted.
Features of the system’s units include:
- Mobile Internet of Things (IoT) gateway with 4G/long term evolution, or LTE, mobile network connection
- Global transmission of machine and position data to the cloud
- Safe transport layer security, or TLS, end-to-end communication
- Buffering of data even with unstable radio connections
- Connection to the machine control system via CAN interface
Additional benefits of mobile IoT include the ability to evaluate field test data in real time and update machine software remotely. Travel and transport expenses are reduced, time between projects is minimised, downtime is limited and machinery usage is optimised.
