Manhattan permitted to start drilling on Nevada’s largest historical uranium production site
TSX-V-listed Manhattan Uranium Discovery Corporation has been granted approval to drill at the Apex uranium project, in Nevada, which advances the state’s largest past-producing uranium mine back into development.
The US Forest Service on May 21 approved the Apex plan of operations, which clears the way for construction of up to seven drill pads, a staging area and new temporary road access.
Manhattan aims to test and expand high-grade historical uranium mineralisation at Apex. Historically, the mine produced 50% of Nevada’s all-time uranium output and has standout historical intercepts of 34 m grading 0.37% triuranium octoxide and 15.2 m grading 0.51% triuranium octoxide.
The approved drill programme has been designed with low impact in mind. The programme will span one year and will be limited to surface disturbance within 0.93 acres.
Manhattan, which has a portfolio of 15 past-producing uranium mines on 25 underexplored US properties, says the latest drill approval supports recent US executive orders aimed at expanding domestic uranium production, strengthening the nuclear fuel supply chain and advancing energy independence and national security.
“Nevada has never seen a modern drill programme on its largest historical uranium production site and we are now positioned to change that. Years in the making, this approval comes at a critical time as domestic uranium supply becomes a national priority,” says Manhattan chairperson William Sheriff.
For him the Apex project has always stood out in the Manhattan portfolio owing to its high historical drill intercepts.
